Mountain Voice - Guatemalan Organic La Voz Coffee
Nestled on the western shore of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, our Mountain Voice – Guatemalan Organic La Voz Coffee comes from Cooperativa La Voz Que Clama en el Desierto, a name meaning “The Voice Crying Out in the Desert.” This powerful phrase honors St. John the Baptist, San Juan La Laguna’s patron saint, known for preaching in the desert.
🌱 What Makes La Voz Special
☕ History & Cooperative Mission
Founded in the late 1970s, La Voz began with a small group of Tz’utujil Maya farmers. It has grown to around 160 members—61 of whom are women landowners—working collectively to produce high-quality, stable‑traded, organic coffee since the early 1990s
🌄 Growing Conditions & Processing
- Grown at 1,350–1,850 m elevation in volcanic soils around Lake Atitla
- Cultivars: Bourbon, Caturra & Typica
- Shade-grown under native tree canopy
- Fully washed and sun‑dried (patio)
- Fermentation now done in tiled tanks for improved quality. The result is coffee with clean, vibrant acidity and a creamy body
🍽️ Tasting Profile
Spiced cherry fruit, chocolate body with green tea aroma.
🧪 Certifications & Health Practices
La Voz has maintained organic certification since 1992–93 and avoids synthetic fertilizers, glyphosate, sewage sludge, and pesticides—ensuring chemical-free coffee that supports healthier communities and soil health.
